    The process of construction of the historical discipline and its relation between the social place occupied by History in the nineteenth century and its position in the present day are problematic discussed in this text. Highlighting the criticisms made by the "Linguistic Turn", with special attention to the so-called "postmodern" and its arguments about the need to reformulate the disciplinary paradigms. In the end, I discuss Hayden White's propositions and his proposal on the "practical past," in order not only to criticize the discipline, but to propose alternatives for it to reformulate, reinvent itself, and become Greater applicability to the society for which it is intended, based on discussions about ethics and responsibility in making history.

    O processo de construção da disciplina histórica e sua relação entre o lugar social ocupado pela História no século XIX e sua posição nos dias atuais são problemáticas discutidas neste texto. Destacando as críticas realizadas pela “Virada Linguística”, com atenção especial aos chamados “pós-modernos” e seus argumentos sobre a necessidade de reformulação nos paradigmas disciplinares. Ao final, realizo uma discussão acerca das proposições de Hayden White e sua proposta sobre o “passado prático”, com intuito de não realizar apenas uma crítica a disciplina, mas propor alternativas para que a mesma se reformule, se reinvente e torna-se com maior aplicabilidade para a sociedade a qual se destina, tendo como premissa discussões em torno da ética e responsabilidade em se fazer História.
