Resumen de O herói passivo em Walter Scott e José de Alencar

The article analyzes the construction of the hero in "O guarani" (1857) and "The silver mines" (1865-66), both by José de Alencar, starting from the studies that the Canadian critic Northrop Frye (2004, 2006, 2014) wrote on the romantic fictional mode. Although The silver mines brings historical data and the building of characters in reference to the first one, the way its hero, Estácio, behaves in relation to the intrigue suggests an acute understanding, on the part of Alencar, of the historical background similar to that held in Walter Scott´s "Waverley" (1814).

O artigo procura analisar a construção da figura do herói em "O guarani" (1857) e "As minas de prata" (1865-1866), de José de Alencar, partindo dos estudos que o crítico canadense Northrop Frye (2004, 2006, 2014) realizou sobre o modo ficcional romanesco. Embora As minas de prata traga dados históricos e de construção de personagens que remetem ao primeiro, a maneira como seu herói, Estácio, se comporta em relação à intriga sugere uma compreensão aguda, da parte do escritor cearense, do pano de fundo histórico empreitada similar à que Walter Scott realizou em "Waverley" (1814).
