Resumen de Zwischen Macht und Moral? Die katholische Kirche während der Militärdiktaturen in Argentinien und Chile. Ein Forschungsüberblick: Mythen und ihre Bedeutungen
The article gives an overview of the research literature about the role of the Catholic Church during the military dictatorships in Argentina and Chile. The relevant literature on this topic is being discussed. Recently, the attitude of the Argentine Church during the dictatorship attracts major interest and the respective research concentrates on the diversity of voices within the Church. Research focused on Chile still deals with the Church as moral opposition towards the dictatorship. For both countries, a concentration of research on the episcopate can be established. Therefore, studies are needed on the role of the “lower” clergy in order to shed light on the variety of ecclesiastic actors.
In addition, comparative analysis could contribute to our understanding of these actors and the dimensions of the violence and human rights violations during the dictatorships
