Los orígenes, en los años centrales del siglo XII, del monasterio cisterciense de Santa María de Oia son analizados a la luz de las reformas eclesiástica y monástica, que entonces se difundían en Europa. Se tienen en cuenta, además, las circunstancias políticas derivadas de la proximidad de la naciente frontera entre los reinos de León y Portugal.

The article analyses the origins of the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria de Oia in the central years of the twelfth century, in the context of the ecclesiastical and monastic reforms that were spreading across Europe during that period. The analysis also takes into account the political circumstances derived from the proximity of the incipient frontier between the kingdoms of Leon and Portugal.
