    Este artículo analiza la interpretación y el tratamiento a los que el Museo Imperial de la Guerra (IWM) ha sometido a la cultura material después de la Primera y la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En los años de entreguerras el IWM presentó su colección en un marco híbrido basado en la asociación directa existente entre los objetos de guerra y los sucesos que los produjeron. Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial se promulgó una valorización diferente, enfocada en modelos y dioramas que ponen un mayor énfasis en el papel informativo de la institución

    Questo contributo analizza in che modo l’Imperial War Museum (IWM) ha interpretato e gestito la cultura materiale in seguito ai due conflitti mondiali. Negli anni fra le due guerre emerge un’impostazione dell’IWM volta a presentare la sua collezione in un contesto ibrido, che teneva in considerazione il collegamento materiale fra gli oggetti di guerra e gli eventi cui erano riconducibili. Dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale si fece tuttavia riferimento a un diverso sistema di valori. In questo periodo, infatti, le istituzioni spinsero per la costruzione di modelli e diorama quali mezzi per enfatizzare ulteriormente il ruolo divulgativo del museo

    Dieser Artikel analysiert die Interpretation und Behandlung von materieller Kultur im Imperial War Museum (IWM) als Folge des ersten und zweiten Weltkrieges. Es scheint, dass die Jahre zwischen den Kriegen im IWM im Rahmen von hybrider Wertschöpfung präsentiert sind, basierend auf dem materiellen Zusammenhang zwischen den Objekten der Kriegszeit und den Ereignissen, die sie erzeugten. Allerdings wurde nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg ein unterschiedliches Wertesystem eingeführt. Die Autoritäten dieser Periode steuerten die Sammlungen nach Modellen und Dioramen, um größeren Nachdruck auf die informative Rolle der Institution zu legen

    This paper analyses the interpretation and treatment of material culture by the Imperial War Museum (IWM) following the First and the Second World Wars. It finds that in the inter-war years the IWM presented its collection within a framework of hybrid value based on the material link between the objects of war and the events from which they originated. However, following the Second World War a different system of value was enacted. The authorities in this period steered collecting towards models and dioramas as a means of placing greater emphasis on the institution’s informative role.

    Cet article analyse l’interprétation et le traitement de la culture matérielle par l’Imperial War Museum (IWM) après les Première et Seconde guerres mondiales.
