  Cuando apareció la Revista de Estudios Extremeños, hace 90 años, ya vivía una treintena de actuales residentes en Barcarrota, y pueden hablar de esta pequeña comunidad de 1927 a 2017, al conocer la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, la Segunda República, la Guerra Civil y el Franquismo, la Transición y la Democracia.

  Varias generaciones barcarroteñas han compartido sueños y pesadillas con el resto de españoles, siendo héroes o villanos, “valientes” o “cobardes” ante el riesgo que corrían sus vidas, familias y haciendas. No han sido plenamente libres, ni felices; pero todas las vidas tienen una magia y una dignidad que a un historiador como yo interesan sobre todas las cosas. Nos detendremos en las historias humanas que marcan, de forma cultural y antropológica, a una comunidad aparentemente inmutable a tiempos, ejércitos y gobernantes diversos

  90 years ago, when Revista de Estudios Extremeños appeared, about thirty current Barcarrota residents had been born and can talk about this small community between 1927 and 2017 through political periods like the Primo de Rivera Dictatorship, the Second Spanish Republic, the Civil War, Francoism and the Political Transition to Democracy.

  Several generations of people from Barcarrota have shared dreams and nightmares with so many Spaniards, being heroes or villains, brave or reckless.

  They were not absolutely free nor happy; but all their lives have a magic and a dignity that is of interest to an historian like myself. We will be concerned with the human stories that show, in cultural and anthropological terms, a community unchanged the passing of time, armies and governments.
