    Addressing prisons in classical literature is an opportunity to revisit the wisdom of the nineteenth century; and think about the timeliness of the paths and struggles for freedom and equality that have marked the last two centuries. Dostoevsky's first major success was a description of prison life. It is a good reason to explore the ambition of knowledge inscribed in the realism movement; The para-scientific character of the novel's approach, still used today in social sciences; The universal nature of the writing of this Russian author; The timeliness of it; The teachings that can be drawn from the wisdom of this book. A game of mirrors hides, as it reveals, human bipolarity, between integration and discrimination. Sometimes exalted, violent. Other times empathic and supportive, denying the need to use violence.

    Abordar as prisões na literatura clássica é uma oportunidade para revisitar a sabedoria do século XIX. E pensar a actualidade dos caminhos e das lutas pela liberdade e pela igualdade que marcaram os últimos dois séculos. O primeiro grande sucesso de Dostoievski foi uma descrição da vida penal. É razão para sobre ele nos debruçarmos. Explorar a ambição do conhecimento inscrita no movimento do realismo; o carácter para-científico da abordagem do romance, ainda hoje utilizado em ciências sociais; a natureza universal da escrita deste autor russo; a actualidade da mesma; os ensinamentos que se podem extrair da sabedoria deste livro. Outras vezes empática e solidária, negando a necessidade do uso da violência.
