Resumen de En busca del ‘inefable Nombre de Dios’: El Tetragrámaton, el lenguaje y la creación literaria en ‘La muerte y la brújula’

  This article examines Jorge Luis Borges’s exploitation of the ‘ineffability’ or ‘unpronounceability’ of the name of God in ‘La muerte y la brújula’ in order to demonstrate the limits of language and refute the possibility of an ‘absolute’ literary text. Analysing the story according to the Cabbala and its proposition of the creative power of words, the symbolism of the compass and the transformation of the Tetragrammaton into an enclosed symbol are interpreted as a commentary upon the arbitrariness of language and the consequent ‘ineffability’ of that which it attempts to represent. This concept is also considered at the level of the entire text, employing the cabbalistic equivalence between God and Nothingness and analysing the spatial reconfiguration of the Tetragrammaton in order to suggest that Lönnrot’s death paradoxically transforms him into a ‘God’ who symbolizes the continuous rewriting of the text by its multiple readers

  Este artículo examina la explotación de ‘inefabilidad’ o impronunciabilidad del nombre de Dios por parte de Jorge Luis Borges en ‘La muerte y la brújula’ para demostrar los límites del lenguaje y desmentir la posibilidad de un texto literario ‘absoluto’. Analizando el cuento según la Cábala y su proposición de la potencia creadora de las palabras, se interpretan el simbolismo de la brújula y la transformación del Tetragrámaton en un símbolo encerrado como un comentario sobre la arbitrariedad del lenguaje y la consecuente ‘inefabilidad’ de lo que intenta representar. Se considera este concepto también al nivel del texto entero, empleando la equivalencia cabalística entre Dios y la Nada y analizando la reconfiguración espacial del Tetragrámaton para sugerir que la muerte de Lönnrot lo convierte paradójicamente en ‘dios’ que simboliza la ‘reescritura’ continua del texto por parte de sus múltiples lectores.
