Testimonio y cine documental: Shoah, Noche y niebla, The act of killing: tres ejemplos a debate

    En este artículo se pretende analizar la manera en la que se aborda el testimonio en tres documentales: Noche y niebla (1955, Resnais), Shoah (1985, Lazmann), The act of killing (2012, Oppenheimer). El objetivo es aproximarse a la diferente manera de concebir la documentación de dos hechos históricos, para los dos primeros casos el holocausto Nazi, y en el tercero la violencia política durante la dictadura en Indonesia. El material fílmico será aquí utilizado como la base sobre la que articular una suerte de testimonio histórico apoyado en retóricas distintas, desde la utilización solamente de imágenes de archivo con una narración en voz en off (Noche y niebla), a un documental sin imagen de archivo valiéndose del testimonio oral (Shoah), llegando a una reconstrucción de los hechos que se quiere testimoniar con los propios personajes que protagonizaron los actos a documentar (The act of killing). Este recorrido por los documentales pretende ser un recorrido por las formas de aproximarse a lo audiovisual como forma de testimoniar.

    In this article we intend to analyze the way in which testimony is adressed in three documentaries: Night and Fog (1955, Resnais), Shoah (1985, Lazmann) and The Act of Killing (2012, Oppenheimer). The aim is to approach the different ways of conceiving documentation of two historical events, for the first two Nazi holocaust and political violence during Indonesia's dictatorship for the latter. The footage will be used here as the base on which some kind of historical testimony backed with several rethorics will be built, from the use of stock footage with a voice-over narration (Night and Fog) to a documentary without stock footage that makes use of oral testimony (Shoah) or a reconstruction of the events which want to be explained with the same characters who were involved in them (The Act of Killing). This journey through the documentaries intends to be a journey through the ways of approaching the audiovisual as a form of testimony.
