During his life in the sixteenth century, Bernard Palissy was involved in a wide variety of scientific and technical activities. In his last period, he was involved mostly in the development of ceramics, in particular for coloured objects. Based on a few examples, this contribution shows how chemical analysis of materials can reveal the originality of the art developed by Bernard Palissy.
