    El Museo Arqueolóxico Provincial de Ourense, decano de los museos de Galicia, cuenta con una larga y convulsa historia que lo llevó a peregrinar por diferentes sedes hasta su asentamiento definitivo en el antiguo palacio episcopal, en plena Plaza Mayor de Ourense. Ocupa un singular edificio, representativo del románico civil, con diferentes añadidos y remodelaciones en épocas posteriores. En etapas recientes, las obras de acondicionamiento del inmueble, para su adaptación a las necesidades de la nueva museología, obligaron a un nuevo traslado que se está prolongando en el tiempo más de lo debido. En este artículo se analiza la historia del Museo, la del edificio que lo alberga y el programa de necesidades arquitectónicas del plan museológico, así como el nuevo proyecto de reforma arquitectónica.

    The Museo Arqueolóxico Provincial de Ourense, the oldest of all the museums in Galicia, has had a long and troubled history that led it to journey through different headquarters until it finally settled in the old Episcopal Palace, in the middle of the Plaza Mayor of Ourense. It occupies a singular building, representative of the civil Romanesque, with various additions and renovations of later periods. Recently, the refurbishment of the property to adapt it to the needs of the new museology, forced it to move again and this transfer is taking more time than it should. This paper looks at the history of the museum, that of the building that houses it and the programme for the architectural needs of a museological plan, as well as the new architectural reform project.
