Resumen de The concept of cross-dressing in Barbra Streisand’s Yentl (1983)

Este artículo trata el concepto de travestismo desarrollado por Judith Butler, junto a los conceptos de sexualidad y performatividad en la película Anglófona contemporánea: Yentl (1983) de Bárbara Streisand. Tras hacer una introducción sobre la palabra ‘drag’, se examinan conceptos como ‘abyección’ y travestismo en base a cómo se representa en el corpus elegido. Además, también se analizan las repercusiones de este cambio de ropa en el entorno del personaje.
La fundamentación epistemológica incluye las teorías feministas como la teorización de Judith Butler o Julia Kristeva. Además, se utiliza para su análisis práctico las postulaciones de biopoder de Foucault.

This paper deals with the concept of cross-dressing developed by Judith Butler, together with sexuality and performativity in a contemporary Anglophone film: Barbra Streisand’s Yentl (1983). After an introduction to the word ‘drag’, I examine carefully the concepts abjection or cross-dressing as represented in the corpus. Moreover, not only the main character is analysed but also, the repercussions that this change of clothes have in the sufferer’s environment.
The epistemological foundations include Feminist theories with an emphasis in the theorization of Judith Butler or Julia Kristeva. Furthermore, this paper uses for its practical analysis the postulations of Foucault’s biopower.
