This study aims to show how the Greek and the Latin scripts have been in contact in Egypt during the Roman period. We study the confusions of graphic codes, especially the alphabet-switching, in Latin papyri, comparing them with the same phenomenon which appears in the inscriptions throughout the Roman world. We try to understand whether this feature is motivated by phonetic confusions or is to be interpreted as an intentional graphic 'mistake'
