  • Resumen
    • On November 5, 2014, at the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Netherlands Veterinary History Society (NVHS) in Haarlem, a review of the highlights of the past 25 years was presented. This article is a summary of the main developments. In 1987, the founders of the society noted that little had been done in the development of veterinary history in the Netherlands, in comparison with Germany, Great Britain, and Japan, where groups were already active in the field. However, once established the NVHS promptly developed its journal Argos and began to play a role in the international forum. Members of the NVHS board have been on the board of the World Association of History of Veterinary Medicine (WAHVM) for quite some time. The NVHS organizes a scientific meeting twice yearly and here we give additional attention to some special meetings. As a result of initiatives by the NVHS board, veterinary history was reintroduced into the curriculum of the veterinary faculty in Utrecht in 1995. For members of the NVHS, three introductory courses in veterinary history have been organized, resulting in working parties on specific subjects and publications. Several NVHS members have presented their work at international congresses, such as the biannual WAHVM congresses, which have been held twice in The Netherlands. It is evident that the NVHS is a viable society with a bright future
