Resumen
- Cervantes's information about Algerian society and the diversity of the Islamic world concurs with the content of the historiographic works on North Africa, affirming the importance of this knowledge for the formation of a collective memory, for which the contributions of Andalusies to the social and economic progress of the Maghreb are recognized. The role of Muslim women, such as Zoraida, in the process of recovering the historical past helps to underline the cultural continuum between the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, problematizing imperial ideals of cultural homogeneity, while simultaneously anticipating the definitive division caused by the Moriscos who are about to leave.
