Resumen de Desarrollo turístico en cabo verde en base al turismo comunitario: actitudes de los residentes

  El principal objetivo de este trabajo es entender la opinión de los residentes respecto al turismo comunitario en Cabo Verde, con especial énfasis en su percepción sobre los impactos que el mismo tiene en su comunidad y en su vida personal. Se han aplicado métodos cuantitativos a través de un cuestionario usando un muestreo aleatorio simple para obtener una muestra en proporción a la población de cada isla. Un total de 1.615 encuestas validas fueron obtenidas. Los resultados muestran que los residentes de Cabo Verde no tienen una opinión favorable sobre la situación económica de su país y la seguridad pública pero son conscientes del potencial que existe en Cabo Verde gracias a sus excelentes recursos para un mayor desarrollo turístico, por tanto, presentan un alto grado de aceptación hacia el desarrollo del mismo. El turismo en cualquier caso ha evolucionado de forma muy diferente entre las diversas islas. Para que el turismo en este país sea sostenible y permita que los residentes perciban los beneficios que pueden obtener de su desarrollo, mayor participación de los locales es necesaria en las iniciativas turísticas. Los políticos deben por tanto responder a las necesidades de las comunidades locales para asegurar que los residentes se beneficien del turismo

  Tourism Development in Cape Verde Based on Community Tourism: Local Residents´ Attitudes. The main objective of the present research was to understand residents’ opinions regarding community-based tourism in Cape Verde, with a special emphasis on their perceptions of the impacts that tourism has on their community and personal lives, as well as residents’ influence through their contributions to higher levels of development. Quantitative methods were applied and a questionnaire was designed, using stratified random sampling to obtain a sample in proportion to each island’s population. A total of 1,615 valid questionnaires were obtained. The findings show that Cape Verde residents do not have a favourable opinion of their country’s economic situation and public security, but they are aware of the potential for more tourism development because of Cape Verde’s excellent resources. Residents, therefore, have a high degree of acceptance of tourism development. However, tourism has evolved quite differently across the islands. In order for tourism in this country to be sustainable and to ensure that residents perceive the benefits they can receive from tourism, greater participation by local residents in tourism initiatives is needed. Policymakers, thus, must answer to the needs of local communities and ensure the benefits of tourism reach residents.
