    En el artículo es abordado el proceso que condujo a la institución de la educación superior agrícola en Venezuela, dando cuenta de los distintos intentos realizados para su creación, los cuales se hicieron presentes desde fines de la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Es reconstruido el contexto donde se inscribieron estos esfuerzos y se reseña el establecimiento de su centro educativo pionero: la Escuela Superior de Agricultura y Zootecnia y su evolución académica durante los primeros años hasta alcanzar el nivel de Facultad. Como marco de referencia analítico fueron revisados con un enfoque de metodología histórica comparativa algunos estudios de casos de países de la región latinoamericana que lograron el establecimiento temprano de sus estudios, a objeto de aportar elementos de mayor densidad al análisis y comprensión de las particularidades del proceso de establecimiento de la educación superior agrícola en el país y los problemas confrontados para su institución.

    The article covers the process that led to the institutionalization of higher agricultural education in Venezuela, from different attempts since the end of the first half of the nineteenth century. The nature and characteristics of the study determined their treatment with a comparative methodological approach. The historical context is reconstructed highlighting the efforts and organizational details are also outlined in establishing their school pioneer: the College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and their academic progress in the early years to the level of faculty. As a frame of reference case studies of countries of Latin America that managed the early establishment of their studies, in order to compare these realities with the vernacular process were analyzed. The curriculum vitae of the pioneer teachers included the names of the first students graduated; the subjects were contemplated in those beginnings and the teachers responsible for their dictation. In building the framework of analysis we used the comparative historical method, analyzing for various countries in the region the rise of agronomic studies.
