    • "Calcium plays a significant role in growth, development and lifelong health," [Jeff Billig] said. "Delavau helps our food brand partners to bring high levels of calcium to consumers in a variety of foods, from meal replacement bars and snacks to breads and frozen desserts." According to Huber, food grade calcium carbonate has the highest concentration of elemental calcium at 40% by weight. Both Huber and Delavau maintain that calcium from calcium carbonate additives in food is readily absorbed by the body as effectively as calcium found naturally in food.

      While food grade calcium carbonate must meet purity requirements in order to be safe for human consumption, it must also meet consumer requirements in terms of texture or "mouthfeel", which is why Delavau has carried out testing on its calcium fortified products, and, using its technology, has been able to increase the amount of calcium carbonate carried by food products.
