  • Resumen
    • For its October 2015 issue, IM took a look at Turkey's potential and challenges for evolving as a mining nation; misplaced predictions in the TiO2 industry; the dominance of China as a fluorochemicals producer; and the obstacles facing India's mica industry.

[subscript] Safe passage: The Bosporus, which separates European Turkey from Asian Turkey, is renowned in myth as being the location of the clashing rocks. Today, it acts as a major shipping channel for the city of Istanbul, where many of Turkey's top mining companies are headquartered (source: Lassi Kurkijarvi).

In keeping with this issue's theme of markets in flux, IM Analyst, Shruti Salwan and Chief Reporter, Liz Gyekye, delved into the global fluorspar industry and examined how China's growing dominance as a fluorochemicals producer is shifting the country away from exports and positioning it as a leading value-added player in the fluorspar sector ( pp42-44 ).
