    El siguiente artículo analiza las condiciones históricas bajo las cuales surgió la necesidad de contar con un cuerpo de bomberos en Costa Rica, vinculando el surgimiento de instituciones de primera respuesta con la dinámica de modernización capitalista que afectó a la formación histórico-social costarricense durante el siglo XIX y principios del XX. Igualmente se refiere a las condiciones que imposibilitaron la consolidación de la institución durante el siglo XIX principalmente. Por último, inquiere acerca de la dinámica en cuanto a fundación de estaciones y plantea algunas respuestas sobre sus cierres.

    The following article discusses the historical conditions under which it became necessary to have a Fire Department in Costa Rica, linking the emergence of institutions of first response to the dynamics of capitalist modernization that affected the social-historic formation Costa Rica during the century nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Also it refers to conditions that prevented the consolidation of the institution during the nineteenth century mainly. Finally, it inquires about the dynamics of the founding of fire stations and raises some answers as to their closures.
