Xiamen Tungsten Co. Ltd, another of the "big six" rare earths producers in China, has also announced plans to lower its production by 10% from its original target of 1,379 tonnes for this year. Xiamen Tungsten operates mines that primarily produce heavy rare earths.
In its Q3 results, Australia's Lynas Corp. said that one of the main causes of oversupply is illegal mining in China, representing "almost half" of the country's production. "As a result, all rare earths producers inside and outside of China are facing extremely challenging conditions," Lynas said.
