  • Resumen
    • According to Baker Hughes figures, the US currently has a total of 848 active rigs, split between 32 offshore rigs and 816 land rigs. The decline in rig count is an important indicator of demand for products used in drilling, completing, production and processing hydrocarbons.

While the continued decline in oil prices took active rigs off the map over the course of 2015, changes in technology and completion designs have meant that more frac sand is being used per active well, with PacWest Consulting Partners estimating that sand usage has increased by 26% from Q3 2014 to Q2 2015, a trend that appears to be continuing.
