"Mine site surveying supported by augmented GNSS has been an important beneficiary of precise GNSS where accuracies of around 2cm are required," Acil's report said. "Augmented GNSS has reduced the labour cost of mine site surveying activities by between 30% and 40% across Australia," it added.
"With the use of the Pleiades mapping and other technologies under licence, we were able to achieve cost and time reductions," says Matthew Crompton, director of infrastructure development at Aspire. "This is critical in the early planning stages of major capital project development." Satellite imagery can be selected with different resolutions ranging from "very high" to "high" and "medium". Satellites such as Pleiades A and B, for example, offer very high resolution images while the Spot family of satellites offer high resolution.
