Resumen de Vancomycin-induced thrombocytopenia and neutropenia in neonate: A case report

Leticia Martins Pereira Vale, Tatiana Xavier Da Costa, Bruna Meirelly Nunes, António Gouveia Oliveira, Rand Randall Martins

  • Neonates have physiological differences including a greater proportion of extravascular total body water, immature renal and hepatic function, reduced plasma protein concentrations and a relatively permeable blood brain barrier. These factors contribute to alter the pharmacokinetics parameters of drugs in neonates, increasing the susceptibility to adverse drug events. Vancomycin-induced neonatal thrombocytopenia and neutropenia are rarely described in scientific literature. We describe a newborn who was diagnosed with early onset sepsis and vancomycin-induced thrombocytopenia and neutropenia
