  • In its first part, the present article discusses the numerous imitations of Petrarch’s Canzone Spirto gentil (RVF 53) written by poets living and working at the Aragonese Court of Naples. In particular, it tries to verify the «intensity» of petrarchism in the poems in question by an analysis of their rhymes. The closest follower of Petrarch’s model in the corpus considered, Iacopo Sannazaro’s Canzone O fra tante procelle invitta e chiara, is the subject of the last part of the study. Arguments derived from the text aim at proving that the poem is not dedicated to Ferdinand II of Aragon (as asserted by Carlo Dionisotti), but to his uncle and successor, Frederick I.
