  • Resumen
    • The essay focuses on the analysis of the work of the Croatian playwright Marin Držić (Dubrovnik 1508 - Venice 1567) and underlines its originality and uniqueness within the European Renaissance culture. The essay also highlights two essential elements which include Držić’s name in the history of European drama: the ability of the author to translate in his drama the philosophical and political thought of the Renaissance and the capacity to use themes and models of the classic and traditional comedy, doing it in a unique way and adapting them to a real and recognizable universe of the native Ragusa (Dubrovnik) and its hinterland.
