Cuando se cumplen cuarenta años de la muerte de José Aguiar, y como homenaje, se han revisado las noticias que se imprimieron con motivo de su fallecimiento. Las referencias son escasas, y no se le dio la importancia que le correspondía a un artista de su talla. El que la muerte le llegase en el arranque de la «transición» española a la democracia hizo que la población y los periódicos se volcasen en otros temas de mayor interés, especialmente los políticos. Ello contribuyó a que este pintor siga siendo un artista desconocido por el público general.

As we mark 40 years from the passing of Jose Aguiar, we review all press releases and news items that touch upon the subject of his death, with the aim of commemorating his life. References are scarce; evidence that not enough relevance was given to an artist of his size. The fact that his death arrived at the same time as the Spanish «transition» to democracy was just taking its first steps meant it was overlooked in favour of other news, mostly of a political nature. This explains why today he continues to be an artist whose existence is ignored by the vast majority of the public.
