Resumen de Transporting industrial minerals in Australia

Cameron Perks

  • Mining accounts for 60% of Australia's exports, with taxes and royalties a major source of income for the country. Cameron Perks, IM Correspondent looks at the importance of investing in Australia's infrastructure.

An example of how the government funds infrastructure around mining is the newly passed A$5bn concessional loan facility for economic infrastructure in Australia's north, where much of the country's resources wealth is based.

Despite the importance of mining infrastructure to the development of the industry, recent metrics by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia (IPA) on work won by civil contractors in the mining industry showed that "mining related investment [has] returned to near zero levels and remains considerably below historical levels", and that "mining is expected to see the biggest retreat of any sector, with work done set to fall $11.7bn in FY2015/16."
