A photograph of lake Baikal by Philippe Bourseiller is presented. Lake Baikal is the world's biggest and oldest lake, dubbed the Galapagos of Russia and was proclaimed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1996. Among other things, the lake faces a variety of ecological threats, including industrialisation in nearby parts of Russia and Mongolia, pollution from tourism, algal blooms and, of course, climate change, which resulted the reduction of ice cover and the increase of water temperatures.
