    El presente trabajo tiene como propsito explorar la vinculacin entre capital social y educacin desde una perspectiva tica. Se hacen algunas reflexiones tericas sobre la tica y la necesidad de desarrollar el capital social como un modelo para enfrentar el llamado mal desarrollo al cual han sido sometidos los pases latinoamericanos. Por otra parte, se considera imprescindible incorporar el factor educativo como la va ms expedita para lograr la transformacin de la sociedad, partiendo de su condicin de ente generador y difusor de conocimiento. Se concluye que son las instituciones educativas y especialmente las universidades las llamadas a construir un pensamiento crtico y reflexivo sustentado en valores ticos que permitan a la sociedad latinoamericana enfrentar los grandes cambios y el reto de la construccin de una nueva visin de desarrollo.

    The main purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between social capital and education from an ethical perspective. Some theoretical reflections on ethics and the need for social capital development are made in order to create a model; by which the so called poor development in Latin America could be challenged. On the other hand, the inclusion of the educational factor is considered as vital to expedite the processes needed to reach social transformation; based on education as the generator of knowledge in society. In conclusion, educational institutions, in particular institutions of higher education, are called upon to build critical and reflective individuals, who base their decisions on ethical values. In this manner, Latin-American society would be better equipped to face important change processes and the diverse challenges involved in the construction of a new vision of development.
