  • Resumen
    • We have long recognized the existence of five mass extinctions in the last half-billion years. But now some are arguing that the third largest, at the end of the Triassic, is an imposter. The end-Triassic extinction 201 million years ago has been linked to volcanic eruptions around the birth of the central Atlantic Ocean. This "central Atlantic magmatic province", aka CAMP, released carbon dioxide and other compounds into the atmosphere--supposedly triggering global warming, acid rain and widespread extinctions.
