El texto aborda la biografía intelectual de dos etnógrafos de las culturas indígenas Apapokúva y Mbyá, así como da cuenta de la relación etnológica con los pueblos a los que dedicaron sus esfuerzos humanísticos y científicos. El artículo, en este sentido, muestra el largo y progresivo trayecto de transformación subjetiva de los investigadores por medio de la convivencia y participación en la vida de los grupos indígenas, haciendo que estos pasarán de constituir meros objetos de estudio a conformarse en sujetos históricos, visibilizados y reivindicados en sus experiencias socioculturales, en sus conflictos inter y extraétnicos, en su búsqueda de salvaguarda del extenso patrimonio que albergaron durante siglos.
La historia de dos trayectos de vida, de dos humanistas e investigadores, por ello, se hace una posibilidad de conocimiento y de difusión de la historia de dos pueblos, con sus matrices sociales y sus tradiciones culturales, ocultados por un extendido proceso a lo largo de siglos de asimilación y aculturación que las sociedades occidentales en países en vías de desarrollo sometieron a pueblos y culturas originarias infligiéndoles el costo de un tortuoso e incierto camino hacia la “civilización” y el “progreso”. La resistencia, abierta o encubierta que estos ofrecieron al proceso civilizatorio, se traducen en dos obras profundas que muestra la firmeza y vitalidad que guardan los grupos en cuestión gracias a sus exuberantes e insondables cosmogonías, núcleo de su existencia y reproducción.

The text deals with the intellectual biography of two ethnographers of indigenous cultures Apapokúva and Mbyá as well as it gives an account of the ethnological relationship with people who dedicated their humanistic and scientific efforts. The article, in this sense, shows the long and progressive way of subjective transformation of researchers through coexistence and participation in the life of the indigenous groups making that these will be mere objects of study to settle in historical, noticed and claimed subjects in their socio- cultural experiences, in their inner and outer ethnic conflicts, and in their quest for safeguarding the extensive heritage kept for centuries.
The story of two courses of life, of two humanists and researchers, therefore, becomes a possibility of knowledge and dissemination of the history of two nations, with their social matrix and their cultural traditions, hidden by an extended process over centuries of assimilation and acculturation that Western countries in developing societies subjected to peoples and native cultures inflicting the cost of a tortuous and uncertain path to “civilization” and the “progress”. Resistance, open or concealed that they offered to the civilizing process, translates into two deep works showing firmness and vitality that keep the groups in question thanks to its lush and unfathomable cosmogony, core of its existence and reproduction.
