Lin (2017) aims to provide a refutation of universal grammar on methodological grounds, claiming that the method itself makes it impossible to discover any innate linguistic universals. In this paper, I show that this claim is overstated and that upon closer inspection, it merely points out the inductive nature of the empirical sciences. Assuming that the empirical sciences are not invalidated on methodological grounds by Lin's arguments, neither is the search for universal grammar.
