Les intellectuels tunisiens de première génération: Des « transfuges structurels » ?

    The article shows that the academic paths of Tunisian writers who had poorly educated parents and grandparents can be explained by the intersection of structural changes, local and family configurations and convergent socialisations. The enlargement of both school and social opportunities after independence certainly increased social mobility. However, it is important to consider parental involvement in education, the symbolic status these intellectuals had during childhood and the local contexts in which they were educated. These paths seem more frequent among men, which can be explained by ongoing gender inequality in access to education.

    L’article montre que les parcours scolaires d’écrivains tunisiens nés en milieux populaires s’éclairent au croisement de transformations structurelles, de configurations locales et familiales originales et de socialisations convergentes. Si l’élargissement tant de l’offre scolaire que des possibles statutaires après l’indépendance a accru la mobilité sociale, la prise en considération des investissements scolaires parentaux, de la place symbolique de l’enfant au sein de la famille et des contextes locaux de scolarisation s’avère importante. Ces trajectoires apparaissent surtout masculines, ce qui tient en partie à la persistance d’inégalités genrées d’accès à l’instruction.
