"Las nenas angelicas". Origen, evolución y perduración

    Las niñas que, durante mayo o el mes de las flores, participaban en los homenajes y ofrendas florales tributados a la Virgen eran designadas en Navarra bajo el nombre de «angelicas». La costumbre, que gozó de gran arraigo y presencia en numerosas localidades, se incluye en el ámbito de lo que se conoce como religiosidad popular. A través de este trabajo, en primer lugar, pretendemos acercarnos al origen y precedentes de dicha celebración, para, posteriormente, analizar su evolución y describir las singularidades que entrañaba la puesta en práctica de esta ceremonia menor de la liturgia cristiana. Por último, se expone el caso de Arraitz, pueblo donde, todavía hoy en día, mantienen viva la tradición. Para llevar a cabo nuestro objetivo, además de revisar la hemeroteca histórica y analizar lo expuesto al respecto en otros estudios locales de carácter más general, hemos contado con el testimonio de mujeres de diferentes edades que en su infancia participaron en el rito.

    Nafarroan, maiatzean edo lorailean zehar, Ama Birginari egiten zitzaizkien omenal- di eta lore eskaintzetan parte hartzen zuten neskatikak «angelicas» izenpean ezagutzen ziren. Ohitura, zeina herri askotan oso zabalduta eta erroturik zegoen, herri erlijiozkotasun bezala ezagutzen den eremuan sartzen da. Lan honetan, lehenik eta behin, ospakizun honen aurrekari eta jatorriari erreparatuko diegu, gero, erritu kristauaren zeremonia txiki honek izan duen garapena eta berau aurrera eramateko egin beharrekoak azalduko dira. Azkenik, Arraitzeko adibidea ezagutuko dugu, usadioa, oraindik ere, indarrean baitago. Gure helburua gauzatzeko, hemeroteka historikoak eta tokian tokiko ikerketa orokor batzuek honi buruz diotena aztertzeaz gain, txikitan ohitura honetan parte hartu zuten adin ezberdineko emakumeen lekukotasuna ere erabili dugu.

    The girls who, during May or the month of the flowers, participated in the tributes and floral offerings made to the Virgin were designated in Navarre as «angelicas». The custom, which had great rooting and presence in many localities, is included in the scope of what is known as popular religiosity. Through this work, in the first place, we intend to approach the origin and precedents of this celebration, to later analyze its evolution and describe the singularities involved in the implementation of this minor ceremony of the Christian liturgy. Finally, the case of Arraitz, a village where, still today, the tradition is kept alive, is exposed. In order to carry out our objective, besides reviewing the historical newspaper library and analyzing what has been said in other local studies of a more general nature, we have had the testimony of women of different ages who participated in the rite in their childhood.
