Sea levels are actually projected to go up by 10 to 20 centimeters over the next few decades. With just a 5-centimeter rise by 2050, however, wave-exposed cities like Mumbai and Kochi in India, and Abidjan in Ivory Coast, would see much more frequent floods, according to Sean Vitousek of the University of Illinois at Chicago and his colleagues.
