Resumen de El Curanderismo, un Problema Social

Se estudia el curanderismo. Se analizan sus implicaciones en la salud de las personas y su presencia en el país en momentos cuando la carencia de insumos en los hospitales ha hecho crisis y la atención médica pr ivada, por sus altos costos, no permite su utilización por parte de la gran mayoría de los venezolanos. Se hace referencia a las diferentes formas y conductas utilizadas en la practica ilícita de la medicina, incluyendo los ritos que ofenden la dignidad hu mana; también se refiere a los factores que contribuyen a su mayor vigencia en Venezuela y refiere el uso indiscriminado de plantas que aún siendo medicinales, pueden ocasionar consecuencias graves, especialmente en niños. El curanderismo suele apoyarse en la ignorancia y el engaño y si queremos restarle significación, hay que educar a la población y concientizarla sobre el problema, desde la infancia.

The «curanderismo» or «healing» is anal yzed in relation with its implications to public health, especially in this time of economic crisis in which public hospitals have no funds and private medical costs are so high that they are not attainable by the majority of the Venezuelan population. Thi s paper refers to the different ways and behavior used in the illicit practice of medicine, including rites that are offences to human dignity; also refers to the factors that contribute to its high presence in Venezuela, and refers to the indiscriminate u se of plants which although some have medicinal properties can have deep consequences, especially in children. «Curanderismo» is supported by ignorance and deceive. To decrease its influence it is necessary to educate the people from childhood and make the m a ware of the problem.
