The article examines the role of culture in the foreign language curriculum. The author looks at the difficulties in integrating culture in foreign language study. The author attempts to define culture and calls it a highly complex, elusive, multilayered notion which defies simple categorization. The role the Internet has played in transforming the traditional ways of incorporating culture in foreign language study. The article also discusses the foreign language course "Cultura," developed by a team from the Foreign Languages and Literatures Section at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
