The article offers a response to and discussion of the article "Studying Religion and Language Teaching and Learning: Building a Subfield" by Huamei Han in the current issue. The author says that both spirituality in a general sense and specific religions should be addressed in the research agenda Han's article proposes. The author also discusses the close relationship between Buddhism and education in Japanese culture and the how language education in relation to religion can contribute to a response to the challenges that nature faces in the Anthropocene.
