    A partir de los estudios de la nueva historia de la diplomacia medieval, el artículo analiza la participación de la nobleza en la diplomacia, teniendo en cuenta el reino de Portugal en el siglo XV, momento en el cual el oficio de embajador ganó sus primeras definiciones en Occidente. El texto discute el papel de la nobleza cortesana, concentrando la atención en las familias Sousa y Silveira, linajes con importante presencia en la diplomacia.

    From the studies of the new history of medieval diplomacy, the article addresses the participation of the nobility in diplomacy, considering the kingdom ofPortugal in the fifteenth century, when the office of ambassador gained its first definitions in the West. The text discusses the role of the courtesan nobility, focusing attention on the Sousa and Silveira families, lineages with important presence in diplomacy.
