  • The firing of every neuron in an animal's body has been recorded, live, for the first time. The animal was a hydra--a tiny, transparent relative of jellyfish. Instead of a brain, it has the most basic nervous system in nature, a net of neurons spread throughout its body. Even so, they know almost nothing about how the hydra's few thousand neurons create behavior.
