    The increase in average life expectancy has brought about a new phenomenon - aging, leading to a number of changes in society. Sexuality is an integral part of human beings, contributes to physical and emotional well-being.The present exploratory qualitative study is part of a wider project on aging and sexuality, carried out with an incidence in the elderly between the ages of 65 and 80. This article explores elderly people representations on love and sexuality. Sexuality in the elderly is surrounded by preconceived myths and ideas that have increasingly changed with the evolution of society. These changes contribute to the well-being of the elderly person because it allows more freedom for the elderly to express their feelings and desires on their sexuality.The study made it possible to highlight the existence of positive representations and thoughts regarding love and sexual life. On the other hand, we identified factors that may negatively impact these representations.

    O aumento da esperança média de vida trouxe um novo fenómeno – envelhecimento, acarretando um conjunto de alterações na sociedade. A sexualidade é parte integrante dos seres humanos, contribui para o bem-estar físico e emocional.O presente estudo qualitativo de natureza exploratória é parte de um projeto mais vasto sobre envelhecimento e sexualidade, com incidência nas pessoas idosas com idades compreendidas entre os 65 e 80 anos. Neste artigo abordam-se as representações das idosas sobre o amor e a sexualidade nelas próprias.A sexualidade nas pessoas idosas está envolta em mitos e ideias pré concebidas que cada vez mais têm alterado com a evolução da sociedade. Estas alterações contribuem para o bem-estar da pessoa idosa pois possibilitam mais liberdade às pessoas idosas para expressar os seus sentimentos e desejos. O estudo permitiu evidenciar a existência de representações e pensamentos positivos em relação à vida amorosa e sexual, por outro lado, identificaram-se fatores que podem influenciar, de forma negativa estas representações.
