    Desde aquellos tiempos (s. XIX) en los que las Sociedades de Clasificación trabajaban exclusivamente sobre planos en papel, ha pasado mucho tiempo, que Bureau Veritas ha aprovechado para adaptarse continuamente a las necesidades de gestión de información de los clientes (tanto en astilleros, a través de astilleros 4.0, como a través de las navieras). Esta nueva tecnología de la información y el proceso de digitalización se ha instaurado en Bureau Veritas en determinados aspectos que confieren plenamente las características que debe tener una Sociedad de Clasificación del siglo XXI.

    Los procesos de mejora continua se han plasmado en distintos aspectos, afectando básicamente a:

    1. Verificación de los diseños de los buques e inspecciones de Nuevas Construcciones (buques nuevos).

    En este caso, los planos en papel han sido sustituidos por planos electrónicos, y estos, en muy poco tiempo, serán sustituidos por modelos basados en 3D: el bien conocido como Gemelo Digital, que simulará al buque real en todas sus vertientes, y permitirá tanto la verificación del diseño, como la gestión de aspectos de mantenimiento durante su vida útil (AIMS="Asset Integrity Management System").

    Otro de los puntos clave dentro del proceso de digitalización es el uso del programa VPM (= VeriSTAR Project Management), que gestiona todos los planos de las disciplinas en los que la clase es concernida y facilita la comunicación con Astillero, Diseñador y Armador.

    2. Inspección de buques en servicio.

    Dentro del proceso de digitalización, las "novedades" se han traducido tanto en nuevos sistemas de inspección (inspecciones con drones, las bien conocidas inspecciones basadas en riesgo [RBI], uso de tecnología virtual y realidad aumentada, etc.) como en la mejora del servicio al cliente (a través de herramientas de solicitud de inspecciones, manejo de la certificación de la flota clasificada, etc.).

    Todas estas novedades que se relacionan con los nuevos desarrollos tecnológicos de los astilleros siguen la línea de desarrollo de la industria, y el progreso en un sector cuya tecnificación alcanzará cotas muy elevadas a medio plazo.

    Since those days in the 19th Century when Class Societes use to work exclusively in paper copies of the drawings, long has passes, that Bureau Veritas has taken benefit to adapt itself to the new need of managemente of information from our clients (both Shipyards, through 4.0, and Shipowners). This new era of technology of information and digitalizing process has been established in Bureau Veritas in determined aspects that confer ourselves in a Classification Society of the 21st Century.

    The processes of continuous improvement have been captures in different aspects, basically affecting to:

    1)Verification of the design of ships in New Constructions (New Buildings).

    In this case, the paper drawings have been substituted by electronic versions, and those, in very next future, by models based in 3D: the so called "Digital Twin", that will stimulate the behavior of the ship in all its aspects, and will allow the verification of the design, as well as all maintenance during its life cycle (AIMS="Asset Integrity Management System").Other of the key points in the digitalization process is the use of the software called VPM (that stands for "VeriSTAR Project Management"), that manages all the drawings concerned to classification in all the disciplines and will ease the communication between Shipyard, Owner and Designer.

    2) Inspection of Ships in Service.

    Within the digitalization process, the "news" will be translated into new inspection systems (made by drones, through the well-known RBI [=Risk Based Inspections), usage of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, etc.) as well as to better experience for the client (through Internet tools for requiring inspections, management of the classed fleet, etc.).

    All these news, that are linked to the technical developments made by the Shipyards, are in line with the development of the industry, and the progress of a sector whose technological development will reach high levels in medium term.
