Some physical and chemical characteristics of substrates for forestry nurseries obtained from different proportions of the residue from the wet process of coffee (RWPC) and residue from sugar cane processing (RSCP) and Ferralitic red typical soil (FRTS) are presented. A design of randomized blocks with four repetitions and six treatments was used, and the following proportions based on percentage over total volume: 0-0-100; 10-10-80; 20-20-60; 30-10.60; 0-20-80; 20-0-80 of RWPC, RSCP and FRTS respectively. The results show that either RWPC or RSCP or a combination of both had a marked effect on the chemical and physical characteristics of the substrates, with a significant increase in the content of P2O5, K2O, PH cations and organic matter, as well as a betterment of the plasticity index, the hygroscopic humidity and the structural coefficient. There was a negative lineal between the contents of organic matter and the plasticity index of the substrates. According to these results, we conclude that either RSCP as well as RBH bettered the physical and chemical ccharacteristics of the substrates, thus they may be considered excellent sources in the creation of nurseries, contributing to de-pollute the environment.
