Resumen de Educación ambiental: Concepto, origen e importancia. El caso de República Dominicana

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el concepto y origen de la educación ambiental, además de reflexionar sobre la necesidad de caminar hacia una nueva perspectiva educativa que estreche lazos entre el medio ambiente y el ser humano, incidiendo en la importancia que tiene la educación ambiental para el desarrollo sostenible. Para ello se plasma el concepto de educación ambiental, el origen y la importancia del término y, por último, se presenta la evolución de este concepto en la República Dominicana. Este país, con fuertes acciones de impacto ambiental aplicadas a su territorio, necesita trabajar en la creación de un plan nacional de educación ambiental, que se aplique en todos los ámbitos, pero sobre todo en la actividad turística, que es uno de los principales sectores del país. Se enfatiza en la actividad turística por el gran potencial turístico de naturaleza que tiene República Dominicana y porque el turismo fomenta la conservación de los recursos naturales y el respeto al medio ambiente.

The objective of this article is to analyze the concept and origin of environmental education, as well as to reflect on the need to move towards a new educational perspective that strengthens ties between the environment and human beings, emphasizing the importance of environmental education for sustainable development. To this end, the concept of environmental education, the origin and importance of the term is expressed and, finally, the evolution of this concept in the Dominican Republic is presented. This country, with strong environmental impact actions applied to its territory, needs to work on the creation of a national environmental education plan, which is applied in all areas, but especially in tourism, which is one of the main sectors from the country. Emphasis is placed on tourism activity because of the great tourist potential of nature that the Dominican Republic has and because tourism encourages the conservation of natural resources and respect for the environment.
