  • Firth points out that the philosophy of effective altruism seeks to use science and rationality to overhaul what it means to give and to do good in the world. Effective altruism started as a way to cut through some of this uncertainty. Thanks to its focus on empirical research, effective altruism has also flagged up some general rules for would-be philanthropists.
