    El presente estudio trata de mostrar el importante papel que jugó la regulación de un sistema de préstamos de libros, no solamente en la conformación de las bibliotecas catedralicias y en la circulación de los mismos entre el clero castellano, sino también en la creciente valoración material de estos artefactos culturales. El análisis de una muestra de referencias a préstamos, compra-ventas, legaciones testamentarias y lectores de manuscritos, extraídas de la documentación medieval de algunas catedrales castellano-leonesas, nos ha permitido ahondar en el uso multifuncional que las obras escritas tuvieron en estas instituciones eclesiásticas. Estas evidencias testimonian, además de su uso litúrgico y formativo, el auge de la percepción social del libro como un bien patrimonial y comercial en la Castilla bajomedieval

    This study is intended to show the important role played by the organization of a book lending system, not only in the shaping of Cathedral libraries and in the circulation of books among the Castilian clergymen, but also in the growing material value of these cultural artifacts. A selection of references to loan, sales, testamentary donations and readers of manuscripts from the medieval records of some Castile-León Cathedrals have been analyzed in order to delve into the multifunctional use that written works had in these ecclesiastical institutions. In addition to their use for liturgical and learning purposes, these references prove the rise of social perception of the book as property and as a commercial asset in Late Medieval Castile
