Resumen de Christian Wolff's Speech on Confucianism: Confucius Compared with Wolff
In 1721, Christian Wolff delivered a speech on the practical philosophy of China, especially the teaching of Confucius, before a large audience at Halle University. Wolff discussed several elements of Confucianism that could be of practical use for human life. According to him, the most important factor in Chinese morality might be its rationalism, which was similar to Wolff's own philosophy. Wolff eventually was expelled from the University because he was regarded as an atheist. His speech is important for the Japanese because Japan's culture has long been influenced by Confucianism.
