  • Resumen
    • Nowadays same-sex marriage is legal in 24 countries across the world. Making history Spain is one of the pioneering countries legalizing same-sex marriages thanks to a reform in its Civil Code in 2005. The research paper presents a comparison between opposite and same sex couples with the main goal of knowing if same sex couple´s members tend to participate more in employment market than opposite sex couple´s members. As far as we know, opposite sex couples have tended to make a work division, paid work and housework, so, do same sex couples perform similarly to opposite sex couples? What is it the impact of educational attachment for both type of couples in the labor market participation? What others characteristics made couples participate more or less in employment market? Are cohabiting couples more egalitarian (in term of labor market participation) than married couples? Are same sex couples more or less ageism than opposite? We have use the “Encuesta continua de hogares” for the year 2015, due that this survey offers the enough sociodemographic information about the householders as to draw a clear picture about the characteristic and composition of opposite and same sex couples in Spain, as well as the sample size for same sex couples is big enough to made statistical inference.

Firstly we will describe the sociodemographic characteristics of the couples. Next we will build two different logistic models to check the impact of type of couples on the participation by their members on employment market. Finally we will develop two multivariate models (one for each type of couples, same and opposite sex) to check how the sociodemographic components influence or not in the participation on labor market by the couple´s members.
