Este estudio eval úa la relación entre la exposición a un mega incendio, factores cognitivos, emocionales y los síntomas de estrés postraumático. Se entrevistó a 249 adolescentes chilenos expuestos a un incendio (83 .9% mujeres;
M = 15 .18 años;
DT = 1 .04 años) , quienes respondi eron a instrumentos para evaluar el miedo durante el incendio, la percepción de la eficacia del entorno social para enfrentar el incendio, la autoeficacia y síntomas de estrés postraumático. Los síntomas se asociaron al grado de exposición al incendio ( β = 0. 21;
p < 0. 01) a la eficacia percibida del entorno social ( β = -.19;
p <.01) y a la autoeficacia ( β =-.16;
p <.01).
Además, el miedo experimentado medió parte la relación de la exposición ( β efecto indirecto= .07;
p <.05) y de la eficacia del entorno sobre la sintomatología ( β efecto indirecto= -.03;
p <.05).
Los resultados dan importancia a los factores estudiados en el proceso de desarrollo de sintomatología después de un mega incendio, por lo que parece recomendable su consideración en programas de prevención y tratamiento del estrés postraumático.
This study evaluated the relationship between the exposure to a mega fire, some cognitive and emotional fact ors, and symptoms of PTSD. We interviewed 249 Chilean adolescents boys and girls exposed to a mega fire (83.9% female;
M = 15.18 years, SD = 1.04 years) , they responded to scales assessing fear during the fire, the perception of the effectiveness of the social environment to face the fire, the self -efficacy beliefs and posttraumatic stress. The symptoms were associated with the degree of exposure to fire ( β = .21;
p <.01), the effectiveness o f the social environment to face the fire ( β = -.19, p <.01) and self - efficacy ( β = -.16, p <.01) . In addition, the fear was a mediator in the relationship between the exposure ( β indirect effect= .07, p <.05) and the effectiveness of the environment with the symptomatology ( β =-.03 indirect effect, p <.05). The results give weight to the factors studied in the process of developing symptoms aft er a mega fire. For this reason, it seems advisable its consideration in PTSD prevention and treatment programs.
